Market Hall, now library; c.1687, when market charter obtained by Philip, Lord Wharton. Later additions and alterations. Coursed rubble with quoins. Hipped, graduated slate roofs with stone ridges. 2 low storeys, 4 bays overall. 3-bay arcade to both south and east-sides: Semicircular arches carried on squat columns; lower sections now blocked and arch-heads glazed (all diamond-leaded, the majority with panes set at differing angles). 3 small semicircular-headed recesses above on south side. 2 similar recesses, with blocked circular opening between, on east side. Studded plank door on east side of lower lean-to adjoining north end. Central gabled projection on east side of roof has rectangular recess at front and louvres to sides. Diagonally-set stack, with domical cap, to roof ridge.
