19/87 Ramp barn in farmyard to south of Tarn House

GV II

Barn. 1664 date, with initials G.F. & I.F. (George Fothergill and his wife Julian), on lintel over byre door; scrolled labels, from former hoodmould, to either side indicated that lintel has been raised rather than re-used. Later alterations. Coursed squared rubble with quoins. Graduated stone-flag roof. 2 storeys, 5 bays. Central plank byre door; C20 casement and segment-headed cart door to right, 2 casements (one in part-blocked doorway) to left. Small chamfered window opening to 1st floor right, plank door to left. Segment-headed 1st floor wagon entrance up ramp to west return. Stone kneelers to roof. Lean-to against east return not of interest.
