15/104 Tower House, with adjoining gateway & coal store

GV II

House with adjoining gateway and coal store. House C17 with initials T & FA on undated lintel; later additions and alterations include C19 gateway and coal store. All slobbered rubble on plinth. Graduated slate roofs with stone-flagged eaves. Kneelers to corbie-stepped south gable. 2-storey, 4-bay house has central panelled door in architrave with 2 original 2-light mullioned windows and an inserted C19 window to left, enlarged 2-light (originally 4-light) mullioned window and fire window to right, all under continuous hoodmould with labels. Some original windows to 1st floor with others later insertions. Moulded cast-iron gutter. Stone mid and end chimneys. Gothic style 2-storey, single-bay coal store has door on inner elevation, slit window to ground floor and cross-shaped vent slit to 1st floor on roadside elevation; castellated. Linked to south gable of house by gateway with segmental arch. House interior retains original (reset) panelling and beams.
