13/73 Fawcett Mill, House with adjoining byre

GV II

Miller's house with adjoining byre. 1784 date, with initials J. & E.R., on door lintel; byre of 2 separate builds, added at later date. Coursed, squared rubble with quoins. Graduated slate roof. All 2 storeys. 3-bay house has gabled porch with side benches and plank inner door; mullioned 3-light window to left and 2-light window to right on each floor. Drip course over ground floor windows. Stone end chimneys. Byre adjoining to left, built into bank, 3 bays overall with main entrance to return and loft access to rear. House interior: Stone-flagged floors, original doors (both panelled and planked). 2 cast-iron ranges: Kitchen range, with crane (by Victoria Foundry of Penrith), in large corniced, bracketed fireplace; scullery range incorporates set-pot. Fine Gothick style cast-iron fireplace to 1st floor over kitchen.
