7/104 Langley Hall 6/2/52 II
Remains of Langley Hall. Early C16 for Henry Lord Scrope, the manor having been in his family before that. Large sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings; roofless at time of survey. Original plan probably 3 ranges round a courtyard; only fragments survive, some to 2 high storeys. North range mostly collapsed; first-floor has corbelled parapet on east; interior shows remains of corbelled fire-hood. South range 2 storeys, 5 bays; side facing yard has chamfered Tudor-arched head to doorway in second bay flanked by rectangular lights; 3 larger lights above have hollow chamfers. Evidence of external stair at west end to door with armorial shields in surrounds. Interior of this range also has fragments of first-floor fireplace; probably first-floor hall.
