4/94 Sorrel Cottage

GV II

Detached cottage. Mid C17, altered c1700 and C20. Rubble stone with some flint and limestone bands to front, Flemish bond brick to first floor, thatched roof with gable end brick stacks. Entrance now on left return. Two-storey, 2-window front. Two-light and 3- light casement with flat brick arches to ground floor, first floor has two 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements, vertical timber brace against front wall. Left return has C20 single-storey extension with hipped roof, single-light casement to first floor, earlier, lower roof-line visible in brickwork. Rear has flat- roofed C20 extension, not of special interest, C20 dormers. Interior has deeply chamfered beams with stepped stops, open fireplace at west end with cambered chamfered lintel on stone jambs. Originally a single-storey cottage, eaves raised c1700.
