6/37 Knowle Farmhouse - - II
Farmhouse. Circa C17 with C18 alterations and wing, C19 stables now part of house, and C20 rear extensions. Plastered stone rubble. Slurried slate roof with gabled ends. North east end asbestos slates. Large plastered chimney stack with set-offs at north east (right) end and another axial stack at ridge near south west (left) end. Appears to have been originally a two or three room and through passage plan with stacks at either end, C18 stairs inserted into rear of passage and circa C18 parlour wing at right angles at rear of higher end. Circa C19 stable extension at lower end, now part of house. C20 rear lean-to extensions. Two storeys. Long five window range. C20 casements one on ground floor right in enlarged opening. Wide through passage doorway to right of centre with plank door and heavy timber doorframe with lead mould and with gabled stone porch. Doorway at lower end (left) with slate hood. C18 hipped roof wing to north (rear) forming L-shaped plan. C20 rear lean-to extensions. Interior: C18 staircase at back of through passage with turned balustrade at top. Complete set of trusses with lap-jointed apices to principals and lap- jointed collars, all side-pegged.
