15/80 Courtyard of farmbuildings to the - east of Westborough Farmhouse
GV II
Courtyard of farmbuildings. Mid/late C19. Red sandstone ; slate roof, hipped at ends ; 2 chimney stacks. Plan: 4 ranges enclosing a square yard with an entrance through the west range with access from a lane running between the farmhouse (to the west) and the courtyard. The west range contains one heated room (said to be the tack room) and is said to contain a second. Exterior: Lofted ranges. The west (outer) elevation of the west range has a large square-headed yard entrance with rounded corners to the right (south) with a pair of large C19 timber gates. 3 further doorways on this elevation lead into the west range, the 2 right hand doorways with stone voussoirs and keyblocks. Inner elevation of this range not seen at time of survey. The south range, backing directly on to the road, is blind on the south side. The inner elevation has 3 doorways on the ground floor, 2 windows and 2 loft doors. The east range is blind on the outer (east) elevation except for one window. The inner elevation has 5 ground floor doorways, 3 windows and one loft window and loft loading door. The north range is blind except for a loft loading door at the east end, which is gabled. Inner elevation not seen at time of survey. A handsome group on the roadside, group value with the farmhouse (q.v.).
