GV II

House. C17 or earlier. Whitewashed rendered cob and stone rubble ; thatched roof,
hipped at right end, half-hipped at left end ; left end stack, large projecting
lateral stack on front with tall rendered shaft.
Plan: Access to interior unobtainable at time of survey (1987) so details of plan
uncertain but it appears to be a single depth main block, 2 rooms wide, the rear
right outshut with a catslide roof may be integral or a later addition ; C20 addition
at right end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2 window front, the eaves thatch eyebrowed over 2
first floor windows ; C20 lean-to porch on front to left of centre with an inner door
to the left of the lateral stack ; 2-light C20 casement windows with glazing bars.
The left return, facing the road, has 2 casement windows.
Interior: Not inspected but said to have exposed ceiling beams (information from
owner): an interior inspection might necessitate revising the suggested dating.
An attractive small traditional house, part of a good group on a corner site.
A postcard of circa 1900 shows the house before the addition of the front lean-to,
and before the left hand first floor window was inserted. Currie and Currie,
Teignmouth, Devon ; Real Photo Series.
