Details
AVETON GIFFORD A379 SX 65 SE (off north side) 1/15 Farm buildings to north of Heathfield Down Farmhouse GV II Barn, stable, piggery or calf-house. Early C19. Rubble, slate roofs. An L-plan unit with, at upper level, parallel with main farmhouse (q.v.) a 2-storey barn, and at right angles, to the right, attached only at the corner, two stopped lower blocks. The barn, set into the ground slope, has two 8-paned and one 6-paned casements and 2 plank doors, all to brick segmental arches, at ground level, and a loading door at first floor, towards the right; two rows of pigeon openings at eaves. Each gable has square pitching hole, and back has wide pair of plank doors set flush, at the upper level, here corresponding with ground level. Stable, to right, has large plank door and a small square opening; the left gable has pair of loading doors at the upper level. Remains of small square stack to right gable. Two lights to back. Cobbled floor. Small added lean-to at inner corner with barn. The third building has a hipped bottom end, with small eaves stack and a 2-light casement to yard and towards farmhouse. One large pair and 2 small plank doors to yard.
