GV II

House in row, with shop. Early C19. Rendered, some Portland ashlar to rear, slate-hung right gable, slate roofs. A rear 2-storey gabled range. 3 storeys; two 12-pane sashes in reveals above a single 8:12:8-pane bow oriel with dentil cornice, and a small cast-iron balcony rail. At ground floor are remains of the dentil cornice to the former bow which continued to ground level, but now the shop front is a later C19 square bay in 3 panes with returns, and transom lights; the glazed door to the right has a transom light, and is in a reeded doorcase, with dentil cornice, part of the original frontage. At the right side the adjoining shop front and property, No.60 (qv), is carried under the party wall to No.59, and this is supported internally on a slender cast-iron column. The rear range, possibly older than the front, includes glazing-bar sashes. INTERIOR not inspected. (RCHME: Dorset, South-East: London: 1970-: 351).
