GV II
House and attached garden wall. C18, altered C19 and C20. Mixed limestone and sandstone rubble; coursed sandstone and partly roughcast; tiled roof with shaped-tile bands; some Welsh slate. Irregular T-shaped plan having front wing projecting from bay 3 and porch in left angle under catslide roof EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic, 2:1:1-bay garden front; chamfered quoins. Porch has part-glazed door in stone architrave with plain frieze and cornice. C18 main wall to left with large 8/8 sash to ground floor and 8/12 sash above; projecting stone sills to ashlar surrounds; eaves cornice. Front wing probably early C19: roughcast end wall with late C19 canted bay window having central French window; ashlar surrounds; brackets to hipped roof of shaped Welsh slates. 8/8 sash to first floor; eaves cornice. Set back on right is a gabled side wing with part-glazed door on left of tripartite window having central 2/2 sash; 6/6 sash over. The side wing projects from a continuation of the main range, the roof of which has been raised probably in early C20 to allow extra storey with hipped roof and rear-facing gable. Main roof has ashlar copings and stack at left end; ridge stack above the porch and tulip cresting to roll-moulded ridge tiles. Front wing with hipped roof and corniced lateral stack on right. Left returns: 2/2 sashes to porch; wing has sill band cut by 6/6 sash; 8/8 sash over. INTERIOR: ground-floor room of front wing has Neo-Classical style fire surround; decorative wall frieze runs into the bay window; panelled window shutters and 6-panel door with raised beads. Main range has some reused oak panelling and 2 C17 panelled doors; 2 other doorways with reeded architraves. Chamfered oak beam in central ground-floor room. SUBSIDIARY FEATURE: wall attached to left return has round-arched doorway next to the house. Wall is of deeply-coursed sandstone with ashlar copings and is approximately 3m in height at maximum; continues for approximately 30m to south.
