ESKDALESIDE-CUM-UGGLEBARNBY COACH ROAD NZ8606-8706 (east side, off), Sleights 18/60 Coates Monument in north-west corner of churchyard of St.John the Evangelist GV II Monument. c.1778 with added inscriptions of c.1789 and early C19. Sandstone. Square on plan. Concave obelisk surmounted by carved lamp and flame. Moulded base enriched with acanthus, on tall die with memorial panels enclosed in low-relief rinceaux. South panel commemorates Ann Coates, died 1778: west panel, William Coates, d.1789, and John Campion Coates, d.1811: east panel, Ann Campion Coates, d.1809, and Elizabeth Campion Coates, d.1819.
