Details

GOATHLAND BECK HOLE NZ8202-8302 19/85 Old Woodbine 6.10.69 GV II Incorrectly shown on OS map as Woodbine Cottage. House and attached garage. Early-mid C18, possibly incorporating remains of an earlier house; later alteration and extension. Herringbone-tooled sandstone with slate roof. Low 2-storey, 3-bay front at right of 1-storey, 2-bay extension. House has off-centre board door in chamfered, quoined opening with chevron-tooled lintel. 2-light mullioned window in chamfered surround at right, with large-pane glazing. Inserted window at left end with large-pane glazing, tooled lintel and stone sill. First floor window is altered 3-light mullioned window at left end. Coped gables and block kneelers. End corniced stacks. Extension has garage doors and coped left gable. Rear: firewindow in chamfered surround with chevron-tooled lintel at right end of house. Other house windows are 2-light horizontal sliding sashes with 12 or 16 panes. Interior: in ground floor left room inglenook fireplace survives, with bressummer, massive corbelled chimneypiece and spice cupboard. Garage extension included for group value. Outbuilding added at right not of special interest.
