Manor Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse; now 2 farmhouses. c1800, incorporating an C18 house; early C19
extension and alteration; further alteration in C20. C18 house of red brick
in English garden wall bond; later house of pink-cream brick in Flemish bond
to front; extension and part of rear wing in English garden wall bond; part
of wing in dressed stone; slate roofs and brick stacks. Central-stairhall
plan, one room deep, with earlier house to right; rear service wing with
parallel range added later adapted to second house. Main front: 3-storey,
3-window front with 2-storey, single-window front to right. Door of
6 raised and fielded panels with patterned overlight, approached by flight
of stone steps and beneath cornice porch. 12-pane sash over door. Other
ground and first-floor windows are 16-pane sashes. Second floor has unequal
9-pane sash flanked by unequal 12-pane sashes. All windows have painted
stone sills and painted wedge lintels. Coped gables and shaped kneelers.
End stacks. Earlier front to right has 16-pane sashes to ground and first
floors, to right of later enlarged entrance. Coped gable and shaped kneeler
to right. Central stack. Left return: 2-storey, 2-window front to left.
Door of 6 raised and fielded panels with divided overlight to right of 16-
pane sash with painted stone sill; 2 similar windows to first floor.
Painted wedge lintels to all openings. Interior of main house: ground-floor
doors of 6 raised and fielded panels in reeded architraves with paterae.
Round arched openings with moulded imposts to rear of ground-floor hall and
first-floor landing. First-floor room to left has reeded fireplace
surrounded with paterae. Second-floor rooms to front have basket grates.
Interior of earlier house: plank and muntin partitions survive on the first
floor.
