Terrace consisting of 4 shops. Brick with French tile roof. 2 storeys with attics, 14 first-floor windows with fourth and eleventh bays having Mansard gables at attic level. Standard "New Earswick" window panes throughout except plate glass shop fronts with central half-glazed doors except for 2- fielded-panel in architraves in gable bays, serving as entrances to flats above. Ground floor sheltered by tiled canopy. First floor: 2-light casements. Attics: 2-light dormer casements except for those in gables to fourth and eleventh bays. Hipped roof. Ridge stacks. The particular significance of New Earswick lies in its contribution to the development of low cost housing in Britain. Experience gained and practices introduced here were incorporated extensively into the Tudor Walters Report of 1918 which was instrumental in the passing of the Addison Act of 1919. Plans from New Earswick influenced the Government Manual on low cost housing which followed the Act.
