SE 58 NE RIEVAULX MAIN STREET (west side, off) 3/118 Rievaulx Mill and Cartshed (Formerly listed as 4.1.55 Water Mill) - II

Watermill and cartshed. Late C18 with C19 additions. Sandstone ashlar, limestone ashlar and limestone rubble, pantile roof. L-shaped plan with cartshed projecting forward at left. Mill: 3 storeys, second floor being an addition, with later 1 storey extension to left. Main section has pitching door and window to first floor. Round-headed board door beneath stone arch to left and 3 uneven window openings, 2 slatted and 1 glazed beneath herringbone-tooled stone lintels. Row of C14 corbels from Rievaulx Abbey to ground/first floor. First floor: board pitching door and slatted casement. Second floor: two 2-light Yorkshire sashes. Extension to left: 2 board doors, unglazed circular window in 2-part stone frame and section of C14 frieze from Rievaulx Abbey to extreme left. Cartshed: 1 storey, 2 bays, divided by massive timber post. Gable coping to mill. Interior: large waterwheel in right end of mill.
