Pair of cottages. c1800, with C20 alteration to no 41. Squared limestone
with brick eaves course and irregular hammered quoins; pantile roof with
partly rebuilt brick stacks. Central-entry plan to each cottage. 2-storey,
4-window front. No 40 to left has 2-light, 24-pane horizontal sliding
sashes throughout. No 41 has 2-light, 24-pane horizontal sliding sash to
ground floor right; remaining windows are 2-light, small-pane casements.
Painted stone sills to all windows. Painted tooled wedge lintels to all
ground-floor openings, and painted timber lintels to first-floor windows.
Rear: single-storey, lean-to outbuildings to both cottages. End and centre
stacks.
