Details
NORWOOD NORWOOD BOTTOM ROAD SE 15 SE (south side) 6/81 Mill Farm Cottage (formerly listed as 25.3.86 Cottage about 200 yards north of Dob Park Bridge) - II
House. Probably early mid C17, altered C19. Coursed squared gritstone, graduated stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays, baffle-entry plan with outshut to rear right. Plinth, quoins. Central triangular-headed doorway with chamfered quoins to jambs. Recessed chamfered mullion windows throughout: of 5 lights to left of door, one mullion removed; of 4 lights to right with an inserted door far right. Continuous dripmould dropped and returned over openings. First floor: 2-light window flanked by 3-light window, some mullions removed. Central ridge stack removed; tabled end stack to right. Rear: blocked door right; blocked narrow window right again and in outshut. Right return: inserted doorway right, each floor, the upper one blocked and each with blocked window to right; on ground floor of 2 lights with dripmould, on first floor of one light. Interior: main room (left) blocked fireplace with timber bressumer; chamfered spine beams with stepped run-out stops. Parlour (right): small stop-chamfered fireplace with cambered head; evidence of former timber partition. 2 king-post roof trusses to left-hand part of roof, the left one formerly with timber partition below. In state of dilapidation at time of resurvey.
