NORTH YORKSHIRE HARROGATE 5338 SE 15 SE ASKWITH ASKWITH MOOR ROAD (east side) High Snowden 6/1 Shaw Hall 22.11.66 GV II
House. Dated 1687 with C19 and C20 alterations. Coursed squared gritstone, graduated stone slate roof partly replaced by purple slates. 2 storeys, 4 bays. Lobby-entrance plan. Quoins. Advanced gabled porch bay 2 with 6-panel door, quoined chamfered jambs and shallow-arched lintel with inscription: "IN 1687", hoodmould over. Segmental-arched niche above contains a carved head on a plinth with the inscription "R Gill 1848". Moulded copings to gable with bulbous kneelers and ball finial right. House: bay 1 to left of porch: C20 blocking to cart entrance with wooden lintel, has plank door and 4-pane window; 2-light recessed chamfered mullion window above, the mullion removed. Right of porch: recessed chamfered windows throughout. Curved wall across the angle between porch and house wall has a blocked segmental-arched window and stone slate roof; small square window above. Bays 3 and 4: C20 door far right in sawn stone surround. Two 4-light transom and mullion windows to each floor, those on the ground floor taller and having the central mullion removed and a C19 casement inserted; continuous dripmould at first-floor level. Bulbous kneelers, gable coping, end stacks and a larger ridge stack opposite the entrance, all corniced. Interior not inspected at resurvey. The first- floor left mullion-and-transom window has a panel of probably early leaded cames.
