EAST ROUNTON EAST ROUNTON NZ 40 SW (east side) 8/17 School House GV II School, now private dwelling. 1876 by Philip Webb for Sir I Lowthian Bell; altered. Brick with sandstone ashlar dressings, now almost all pebble-dashed. pantiled roof. T-plan. 1 1/2 storeys; 2 bays to each gable end; the central gable projecting forwards, with a narrow bay at either side brought forward under a pent roof to one-storey height. Sash windows, mostly replaced, 16-pane in side bays and on first floor of central gable, 12-pane at ground floor centre. Flat-topped roof extensions, with 12-pane sashes, flank the central gable. Tall central ridge stack with projecting through-stones. Stone gable copings now covered with pebble-dash, but triple footstones exposed. Doorways on both returns, in low pent sections. Side gables have 3 windows below, the central wider and 2 above, under gabled hoodmould; slit vent in gable peak. Rear eleva- tion shows flat-roofed dormer all across the back. Interior not inspected.
