Details

STAINBOROUGH WENTWORTH CASTLE SE30SW 1/56 Cottage to east of cart-shed at 15.1.79 Home Farm (formerly listed as part of Home Farm, Cartshed and cottage) GV II Farm cottage. Late C18, altered. For the Wentworth Castle estate. Coursed, squared sandstone now rendered, Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 x 1 bays. Central 6-panel door and 4-pane overlight in square-faced surround, 16-pane sashes with projecting sills to other bays. Cavetto-moulded gable copings. Left return: blocked doorway in ashlar surround with pulvinated frieze and cornice. Central lst-floor 6-pane sash in eared and shouldered architrave; later casement on its left; pedimented gable with blocked, chamfered slit in tympanum. 2 brick stacks at eaves on left.

Interior: some C18 doors and a re-used C17 door.

The eared and shouldered architrave on left return is similar to 2nd-floor windows of Wentworth Castle's east front and may have been re-used after the remodelling of its southern return bay in 1759-64. Formed a pair with adjacent cartshed now altered. Attached wall to rear-left corner listed with barn at Home Farm (q.v.).
