Thirsk Lodge
II
The main gateway to Thirkleby Hall, now demolished. c1780. Probably by James Wryatt,
architect of the Hall. Ashlar. Central pedimented round arched entrance with lower
side wings and later extensions to the sides. Pediment has chimney. Mask keystone to
arch and paterae to the spandrels. The arch rests on a cornice that runs continuously
across the wings to the pilasters at each end. Parapet to wings with rather worn
paterae at each end. A single sash window with glazing bars and a plain cill to each
