10/41 Brook House
II
House. C17 with mid C19 wing and restored in C19 and C20. Coursed squared stone, stone slate roof. The main range has a short gabled wing to the rear and the gabled C19 crosswing to left. Two storeys. The C17 ranges have double-chamfered windows mostly with hoodmoulds. The front has a 5-light window to ground floor and a 4-light window to 1st floor. The rear wing has an addition at ground floor level, a 3-light window at 1st floor level and a single blocked light in the apex. The right gable has a 4-light window to ground floor and a later doorway, two 2-light windows to 1st floor and a single light in gable apex. An ornamental ashlar stack surmounts the gable. (The C19 wing is not of special interest.) The house was the home of the C19 local artist Abel Hold.
