Details
THURCROFT ROCHE ABBEY SK58NW SK54408965 7/121 Cascade at north-east corner of Laughton Pond GV II Cascade. Probably c1775 by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown for Lord Scarbrough. Irregular magnesian limestone, blocks deeply-coursed in tiers. Approximately 3 metres in height allowing waters of Laughton pond to cascade as a picturesque landscape feature of Roche Abbey (Scheduled Ancient Monument). The scheme for Roche Abbey was undertaken by Brown, between 1774 and 1777, whose contract survives at Sandbeck Park.
