Roadside and farmyard enclosure wall with attached cowhouses and carriage
house. Mid-late C18, and early C19. For the Ravenfield Hall estate.
Coursed, dressed sandstone and brick walling; farmbuildings re-roofed in C20
cement tiles. Trapezoidal enclosure wall lining roadside to west and linking
entrance gateway and attached railings to barn at Ravenfield Hall Farm
(q.v.), southern side (to north of present farmhouse) links to stables
(q.v.). East side has attached 1-storey range with 2-bay carriage house at
south end and cowhouses of 5 and 6 bays on its right.
Roadside wall: 3-4 metres in height with plain copings, incorporates rear
wall of farm cottage to the north of which the wall sets back from road in a
convex curve. Southern limb is brick faced and has ashlar door surround on
right. Attached carriage house: early C19 with impost band to 2 segmental
arches and eaves band to hipped roof. Cowhouse on right: central door linked
by impost band to flanking windows, all round-headed; eaves band to separate
hipped roof. Cowhouse set back on right: in same style but altered.
Interior of enclosure not inspected at resurvey. (Aerial photographs show
the enclosure is sub-divided, its northern part has buildings within).
