PAINSWICK
GLOUCESTER ROAD (east side)
No 22 (Hillfoot Cottage)

(Formerly listed as Hillfort Cottage)

II

Detached cottage. Possibly early C18, much modified C19. Large blocks, coursed and squared limestone, stone slate roof. Two storeys and attic, two windows. At ground floor a two-light steel casement under hood, centrally, replacing former doorway, and one two-light chamfer mullion casement with rectangular leading under hood; first floor has two two-light casement gabled dormers. Stack, right, rebuilt in concrete block. Right gable return has C20 single light casements at ground and first floors; left return has a two-light chamfer mullion with rectangular leading and hood over similar but with wood lintel; lean-to with C20 door. Back has various lights. Although in detail this appears to be C19, the steeply pitched roof and nature of the masonry suggests an earlier building.
