5/56 Barn adjoining Coberley Court
GV II
Barn. Parts may be C17 or earlier but appears to have been largely
rebuilt during the C19, as suggested by differing wall alignments
and materials; slate roof. The early parts of the building are
built from random large blocks of squared and dressed stone, the
rebuilt parts from small coursed squared and dressed limestone.
Rectangular plan with a projecting porch on the north side and a
continuous lean-to extension on the south which continues around
the right gable end. Coberley Court adjoining, not of special
interest. North front, facing lane: two buttresses with offsets
flanking a blocked doorway and two 2-light fixed casements, another
doorway to the right of the right-hand buttress; one 4-pane
casement and a row of three similar windows below the eaves.
Projecting porch with double plank doors and a 12-pane sash above.
Half-hipped gable end. Interior: 9 bays with collar and tie beam
trusses a number of which appear to be reused, the entire roof
structure probably having been replaced during the C19:
(Engraving by Kip in Atkyn's History of Gloucestershire shows a
barn on the same alignment c1712; V.C.H. Glos., Vol VII)
