WINTERBORNE ZELSTON VILLAGE CENTRE,
Zelstone House

(Formerly listed as Winterborne Zelstone House.

Previously listed as Winterbourne Farmhouse)

GV II

Detached house. Rear range mid-C18, front range early C19. Brick walls,
with dentil cornice to rear range. Tiled roof to rear range, slate roof to
front range. Brick end stacks. 2 storeys. Double-pile plan with parallel
ridges, and rear wing at right end, (part of original structure). Front
range in Regency style. In centre, recessed section flanked by shallow
brick pilasters. Ground floor of this infilled to form porch, with stone
pilasters, pair of glazed doors with bordered glazing, side-lights and
fanlight with intersecting glazing. Balcony over with ornamental iron
trellis. Each side of centre section 2 sash windows with glazing bars on
each floor. In earlier rear range - panelled door under flat hood on shaped
brackets; casement windows with cast iron glazing.

Internally, in front range, one ground floor room has a re-set C18 carved
pine fireplace. Original cornices and joinery in these rooms. Stair, in
rear range, has cut string, plain balusters and turned newels. Cellar under
front range has brick vaulting, supported on a cast iron Tuscan column.
Raised garden at rear has cob wall with tiled capping. (RCHM Monument 3.
