7/99 The School House
GV II
Former school house. Built 1843 by R. Pace of Lechlade (q.v. The
Lodge, Birdlip). Coursed and dressed limestone; slate roof with
cream-coloured brick stack. Rectangular plan with a projecting
porch on the south side. C20 brick extension to rear, not of
special interest. Two storeys. South front: projecting gabled
2-storey porch with a 4-centred arched entrance and moulded hood
with plain shield stops; arms of the Hicks family on the gable;
plank door with fillets within the porch; 2-light stone-mullioned
window with pointed-headed lights and carved spandrels to the right
of the projecting porch; similar smaller window above, two similar
windows to the left gable end; similar windows and plank door with
fillets and glazed panel at the rear. Gable-end stack. Interior
