Details
ST 30 SE THORNCOMBE SADBOROW 3/81 The Water-Mill at Sadborow Mill II Detached Water-Mill. Dated 1827: Keystone of top right window. Rubble walls with brick quoins and dressings. Roman tile roof, C20, hipped. Rectangle in plan. Two storeys. Three casements with renewed wooden frames and cills. Segment-headed window-arches with stone keys and some burnt headers. Two ground floor 'stable-doors' near centre, brick jambs and wooden lintels. Stone-floor: 'stable-door' with large iron hook over. Tall built-in wooden buffer beside 1 ground door. Mill-wheel on rear face: 22 ft overshot wheel, 6 r.p.m., originally driving 2 mill-stones, latterly 3. C19 wooden partitions and doors. Stone floor: 2 mill-stones extant, and full apparatus. Winnoning Box. The Mixing Room. (Scales etc not original to the mill). Bin-floor, with platform, shutes etc. The machinery is remarkably complete, and the mill have been working within the last two years. Full operations ceased in the 1950s.
