- II*

Cottage, now attached and forming annexe to a C19 cottage. Late C15, of open-hall form, altered in C16 and C17. Possibly originally timber-framed. Walls now of rubble stone thatched roof, with coped gable at left end. Brick stack at left end, stone stack right of door. One storey and attic. Ledged door - into cross-passage. Ground floor has 3 casements with lead lights. Attic has one dormer with similar casements. Internally, the whole roof smoke-blackened, ie house originally open throughout. Remains of original wattle ceiling - hidden by recent lining. 2 cruck trusses and one collar truss. Lower end room - at left end, now used as garage; one deep chamfered ceiling beam. Hall has inserted intersecting moulded beamed ceiling. Inserted stack - C16 - with moulded timber lintel and jambs. Heavy plank and muntin partition between hall and inner room, with shouldered arched doorway. Head beam of partition notched for joists - below present ceiling level - could indicate internal jetty. A small house of exceptional interest. (RCHM Monument 12. (Dorset. Vol.I). R Machin "The Houses of Yetminster." University of Bristol. 1978) The C19 cottage not of-special interest.
