STURMINSTER NEWTON NEWTON (south side) No 82

4.10.60

GV II House. C15 or early C16, with probably C17 and C18 alterations. Whitewashed brick (English bond) thatched roof with gable ends. Brick stack to left and at two-thirds from left. Two storeys, five windows range. Ground floor openings under timber lintels but traces of earlier segmental brick arches visible. Two- and three- light wooden casements with glazing bars. Six-panel door with two upper panels forming integral lights.

Internal features: two jointed cruck trusses (smoke blackened in roof) are visible; internal jetty; plank and muntin partition; doors in heavy wooden frames. Building originated as an open hall.
