west of Southfield House
GV II
Barn, store and stables. Late C17-early C18, mid C18. Square-
panelled timber-framing with brick infill, brick store, corrugated
iron red tile roofing. Range of buildings forming rectangle in
plan. Late C17-early C18 timber-framed barn with single-pitched
corrugated iron roof at centre, not of special interest. Single
storey timber-framed store with red tile roof at north gable end.
Mid C18 store onto south gable end of barn; 2 storeys and attic, 5
blocked windows with cambered heads in south gable-end (facing
road), early plank door to lean-to passage left with cambered brick
arch over. Hipped roof dormer and brick parapet with kneelers,
brick dentil decoration at eaves.
Interior of mid C18 brick store; 3 stilted-headed arches with
keystones and imposts from lean-to passage into main body of C18
store, north gable-end open to barn. Barn; 5 bays, formerly with
upper floor, queen strut roof now truncated and reduced to single
pitched roof. C18 brick store occupies a prominent position on
roadside.
