Details

BUCKLAND LAVERTON VILLAGE SP 0635-0735 10/21 Stables, Top Farm, about 8m east of house GV II Stables. Possibly C15, C18, minor alterations C19. Squared, coursed stone, ground floor and gables, weatherboarding on studs first floor, thatched roof. Five-window range, one room deep, 1 1/2 storeys. Face to house: left end stone up to eaves; to right boarded first floor section starts: below boarded door, timber lintel. To right boarded stable door, glazed light above, rising into boarded section above. Double boarded doors in stone wall only; two 6- pane windows under timber lintels, left in blocked doorway. Right return, boarded stable door on left, ground floor, central boarded door first floor; both timber lintels. Half hip above. Interior lofted from right end to left of double doors, tie beam truss, collar and angle struts, slight braces to wall posts; 2 pairs purlins, square ridge. Left end stable and store, unlofted, separated by cruck truss, with yoke at apex, collar; originally with wattle and daub infill. Forms group with house (q.v.).
