THORNFORD ST 6012 LONGFORD ROAD (west side) 17/148 Nos 436 and 437 31.7.61 GV II

Pair of cottages in row. Early C19. Coursed rubble-stone walls. Thatch roof with half-hipped and gabled ends, and with 2 gabled dormer to each cottage at front. Brick stacks at party wall and on ridge of no. 437. 1½ storeys. 4 windows, irregular fenestration. No. 436 has 3-light wood casements with glazing-bars, and two 2-light wood casements with glazing- bars in gabled half-dormers, brick-dressed jambs and brick over window- head. No. 437 has a square bay window each side of front door, 3-light casements, C19. Gabled half-dormers have 2-light Yorkshire sliding-sashes with ornamental bressumers under the thatch. Front door at centre, is flush-panelled with 2 top lights, up steps. Gabled wood porch with carved bressumer. Interior: no. 437 has a lobby-entrance. Flagstone floors in right room. No. 437 was the home of C19 Fooks family of carpenters.
