14/69 The Old Vicarage (formerly listed 26.1.56 under The Vicarage) including garden walls adjoining Ilsington House

GV II*

Semi detached house, formerly east wing of Vicarage. c1600 origin, altered and enlarged, probably in C18 and early C19. Originally timber framed, clad in brick in C18, and walls raised in C19. Now, brick walls on rubble stone base. Tiled roof, with stone eaves courses, brick end stacks. 3 storeys. Present entrance in east wall (garden front of original single house). Part glazed door with sidelights under lean-to porch, on timber posts. Also, pair of French doors. First and second floors each have 2 casements with glazing bars under segmental arches. In right end wall some timber framing exposed. Attached to this wall, at lower level, a C19 single storey block, of brick, with slate roof. One casement with glazing bars. Right of this, site of further C19 range demolished c1970, - lower walls survive as garden walls. Internally, ground floor room at south end has moulded intersecting ceiling beams. Room north of this has deep chamfered ceiling beams and large open fireplace - altered. Remains of timber framed walling visible in north ground floor room. Garden boundary walls adjoining Ilsington House (qv) of brick, with shaped copings. (RCHM Monument 4 Dorset Vol III)
