BOXWELL WITH THE STREET (Leighterton Village ST 8291 east side) LEIGHTERTON 2/10 Royal Oak


Public house. Mid C19. Random rubble limestone with ashlar dressings; stone slate roof. Single-storey with attic; rear wing to form T-plan. Front elevation: central 3-centred arched moulded doorway with plank and stud door flanked by 2-light chamfered mullioned casements having hoodmoulds. Row of 3 single-light attic casements, each in parapet gable with ball finial. Parapet gabled ends to front block, each with diagonal ridge-mounted chimney stack. C20 addition to east end. Rear wing: parapet-gabled dormer to west side with 2-light casement; flat-roofed single- storey C20 extensions below. Diagonal chimney stack to parapet- gabled north end. Windows on front elevation have internal panelled shutters. Said to have been built using stone from Boxwell rectory.
