II
Medieval or C17 blast furnace. Large roughly-squared stone. Trapezoidal plan; furnace opening on north, flanked by splayed wing walls standing to 2 metres in parts. Rear wall more ruinous. Important industrial monument, excavated by Richardson in 1884, recently re-examined. 'Furnace rediscovered - a provisional note', S.M. Lindsley. Industrial Archaeology Review Vl No.1 (1981/2) 69-72.
