14/47 Long Corse (formerly listed as cottage 7.1 .77 between Southlyn and Widdale)

Small house: 1848 for the National Co-operative Land Company by F. O'Connor, later extension. Flemish bond brickwork on chamfered stone plinth, slate roof. Three-bay front, single-bay extension on right, single storey. Centre section projects slightly, gable over: timber gabled porch added, half-glazed sides above weatherboarding, half-glazed door. Either side tall single-light windows with rubbed brick arches. Plain brick string course to bottom of gable: stone quatrefoil ventilator above, slightly projecting brick course to verge, plain verge rafter with shaped corbel below. Each side 2-light casement window, flat rubbed brick arch; slightly projecting course of bricks to eaves. Right end lean-to extension with similar window. Brick chimney on end gables and behind centre at rear. Apart from porch and extension front little altered. Originally with 2-acre plot. Listed principally for historical and sociological interest; forms group with other Chartist cottages (q.v.). (A.M. Hadfield, The Chartist Land Company, 1970)
