Large inn and hotel, formerly 3 separate properties. A Lion Inn is recorded in High Street from 1592 and may be on this site. Properties probably originally late C17 or early C18, much altered in early C19. Roughcast, stone slate roof with 3 stone stacks. Single long range with one large room on ground floor, 2 storeys. Six windows, two 12-pane sashes and 4 triple sashes of 4/12/4 panes. One 12-pane and 3 triple sashes on ground floor with throughway on left (a former shop, not an original carriage arch). Two doorcases probably of C19, in centre with wide open pediment on consoles over pilasters, 6-panel door with sidelights, top 4 panels glazed, lower 2 fielded; to right with narrower surround in similar style and semi-circular soffit, radial fanlight, door of 6 fielded panels. Two triple sashes flanking central entrance have plate glass lower central sashes. Plaque dated 1843 on right-hand return.
