Details
WHITTINGHAM A697 NU 01 SE (East side, off) 10/106 Whittingham Station II
Disused railway station. 1887 by Bell of York for the North-Eastern Railway.
Rock-faced snecked stone with Welsh slate roof. Cast-iron canopy. An island station, i.e. with platforms on both sides.
Single storey, 11 bays.
4-panel doors with small-pane overlights in 1st and 11th bays. 6th bay forms a walkway through the building connecting the platforms.
2-light mullioned windows, now boarded up.
The whole building is surrounded by a cast-iron canopy formerly with a glass roof. It is cantilevered with large brackets and elaborately-patterned spandrels, and decorative bargeboards.
Gabled roof with 3 ridge stacks.
