SHOTLEY LOW QUARTER A 691 (South NZ 05 SE NZ 084527 Side,off) 17/238 Burn House, and Burn House Cottage.

II

Gamekeeper's House with attached worker's cottage, c. 1860. Coursed rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins and tooled ashlar dressings; roof of large blue slates, yellow brick stack on stone base. East elevation 1 storey + attics, 3 bays. Central bay set slightly forward has 3-light bay window and 3-light window over; gable has wavy bargeboards with moulded pendant. Right bay has 2 steps to vertical- panelled door under pointed arch with single-light window on right; left bay has 3-light window; both flanking bays have gabled dormers with 2-light windows and similar bargeboards. Cruciform ridge stack.

Left return 2 bays; gabled right bay has 2-light window and decorative bargeboards, Left bay, set back, has vertical-panelled door under pointed arch in square frame, and single-light window to left. All openings in chamfered surrounds with moulded hoods; windows 8- or 10- pane casements.
