23/251 Doctor's Cottage, 40; metres north of Black Hedley farm- house.
GV ll
Combination of house and lectern dovecote, mid-C18. East elevation squared stone, others coursed rubble; cut dressings; slate roof. 2 storeys + attic dovecote, 2 bays, symmetrical. 1st floor band, moulded string below attic, parapet with moulded cornice to returns and rear. Central boarded door with chamfered surround, inside C20 glazed porch; flanking 16-pane sashes in architraves with pulvinated frieze and band stepped forward to form cornice. Similar windows in plain stone surrounds above, beneath smaller openings in stone surrounds, each with 3 tiers of 4 circular pigeon holes, above alighting bands. Ends of return parapet broken forward above string course. Pent roof; parapet to rear with central pilaster. Left return shows 12-pane sash on ground floor. Returns capped by sculptured beasts (otter on north, fox on south) reputedly by Lough. Twin projecting stacks to rear rebuilt C20. 1-storey extension to north not of interest.
