21/224 Whiteley Shield Farmhouse and adjacent outbuildings

House, mid C18 remodelling of a late C17 or early C18 structure. Outbuildings probably C18, altered. Rubble with roughly-shaped quoins and tooled dressings; stone slate roofs. 2 storeys, 3 bays, symmetrical. Central boarded door with 4-pane overlight, in raised stone surround. 12-pane sash windows with slightly projecting wedge lintels and sills. Stone end stacks. Lower l-bay extension to left. Outbuilding set back to right is a former cottage. Small 4-pane sash on 1st floor and recessed section to far right with small part-slatted window inserted in blocked door. Stone ridge stack. Rear elevation of house shows central 9-pane fixed stair window with slightly projecting wedge lintel and sill. Interior: plain c18 fireplaces, stair with swept grip handrail and stick balusters. Thick internal wall to right of entrance passage is part of earlier structure. C18 fireplace in former cottage.
