Details

BISHOPS WALTHAM ASHTON LANE SU 51 NW 3/8 Old Farm II

House. Late-medieval hall with crosswing, with c1600 insertion of fireplaces and upper floor (to the hall) in lobby-entrance form, with C20 minor extensions. Frame exposed in the north-east gable, with brick infill, and part of the front gable (mostly tile-hung), other walls of brickwork in Flemish bond. Tile roof, hipped and half-hipped, with a gable to the front, catslide at rear, gabled to the C20 rear block. Hall with two-storeyed crosswing, outshots at rear and south- west end (raised in the late C19); south-east front elevation of two storeys four windows. Casements. Boarded door in a plain frame. The interior has exposed framing, indicating the phases of construction, the lobby entrance being matched by an original staircase form at the other side of the chimney block; C17 partition wall is made up of vertical panels.
