Disused lime-kiln
II
Lime-kiln. Late C18 - early C19. For John Hutton of Marske Hall. Rubble.
In plan an irregular circle. Hearths of triangular plan to north and west;
that to west with segmental-arched opening; the arch fallen to north. At
the top, a large hole serving both hearths, the stonework now collapsed.
John Hutton was an important agricultural improver, and reclaimed large
areas of scrub land for arable use, even at this altitude.
