GILLING WITH HARTFORTH B 6274 NZ 10 SE AND SEDBURY (west side) 8/56 Gateway approximately 3 metres south of Low Lodge (formerly listed as Low 4.2.69 Lodge and Gateway, Aske Park)

Gates, gate piers and screen walls. Late C18. For the Dundas family of Aske Hall, probably by John Carr of York. Sandstone ashlar, wrought-iron = gates. Inner main gate piers, flanking carriage drive gates, are linked by screen walls containing pedestrian gates to lesser terminating gate piers. Inner gate piers: square on plan; chamfered rusticated quoined with vermiculation on quoins; square bases; cornices, and above, blocking with festoons and pyramidal caps. Outer gate piers: square plan; chamfered rusticated quoined; square bases; cornices and pyramidal caps. Screen walls: each has plinth; round-arched opening and entablature which lines through with cornices of piers. Gates, possibly later: square-section bars with spear finials; ogee profile to top of all gates.
