PARISH OF MIDDLETON AND SMERRILL RAKE LANE (off) SK 16 SE 4/46 Flaxdale House (formerly listed as (part of) range of ten cottages to NW of road junction in middle of village) GV II House. c17 with alterations in C18 and C19. Coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, quoins, end ridge stacks and concrete tile roof. 'L' plan, with lower added bay at east end. Two storeys, irregular elevation, with formerly recessed chamfer mullioned windows now with C20 joinery in old surrounds. One ground floor opening retains a single chamfer mullion. Stone framed doorway with C20 door. Lower range with stone framed openings. Stone slates to range at rear. Listed for group value only.
