Details
CALSTOCK SAND HILL, Gunnislake SX 4271-4371 7/140 Church of St Ann II Church, built as a chapel of ease for Gunnislake, 1880-81. Granite rubble with granite dressings and white brick dressings. Slate roof with crested ridge tiles brick eaves cornice and scalloped slate bargeboards. Terracotta cross finials. Plan: Nave and chancel in one ; south aisle with circular stair tower and south porch, north aisle with north bell tower/porch. Basement below nave, chancel and aisle. Exterior: The nave has west gable end with 2 lancets and small C20 addition. The north and south sides have 5 lancets in the clerestorey. The chancel has 3 lancets in the east end at basement level, and 3 taller lancets above, one upper lancet at each side. Pointed arched north door. The north aisle has 4 paired lancets at the upper level and 3 lancets to the basement. Paired upper and single lower lancets at the east end, paired lancets to west. 2 stage bell tower/porch, open at ground floor level, with pointed arched gateway with cast iron gates. String course and 2-light louvred bell-openings. Pyramidal roof with finial. Inner door with strap hinges in shouldered hollow- chamfered surround. The south aisle has windows as to north. Gabled porch at the west end, with 4- centred arched doorway with cast iron gates and similar inner door. Circular stair tower at the east end with lancet. Interior: 5-bay north and south arcade with chamfered 4-centred arches. Brick string course above the arcades, and brick dressings to the windows. Common rafter roof with collars and king posts. Sedilia in chancel. Fittings: Contemporary C19 wooden benches and pulpit, octagonal stone font in south aisle.
